This simple, natural face mask from Caroline Artiss utilises the wonders of tea tree oil and cucumber to aid oily-prone skin. This quick pampering treatment is sure to leave your skin brighter and clearer - why buy expensive, chemical-packed masks and scrubs when you can keep it all natural with the help of some essential oil and the kitchen cupboards? As Caroline explains:
Cucumbers are packed full of soothing and astringent properties, which is why they are often used in eye treatments and face masks. The oatmeal helps to remove dead skin cells and unblock pores, leaving skin clearer. Tea tree oil is a natural astringent and so helps to reduce excess oil on the skin, tighten the pores and fight acne.
¼ small cucumber
2 fresh mint leaves, or 2 drops peppermint essential oil
25g/ ¼ cup ground rolled oats
1 ½ tablespoons natural low-fat Greek yogurt
1 drop tea tree essential oil
Makes 2 applications and keeps for up to 2 days in the refrigerator
1. Using a small food processor, whizz everything together until you have a smooth, thick paste.
2. Using a large face-mask brush or clean fingers, apply the mask to freshly cleaned skin, avoiding the eye area, and leave it on for 10 minutes. Wash it off with warm water and pat the skin dry.
Bonus recipe idea: Cucumber & Mint Refresher
Try adding a few slices of cucumber and a few torn or bruised mint leaves to a glass of still or sparkling water. They add a wonderfully refreshing taste that will encourage you to drink more water. Ensuring you are well hydrated makes the skin look plumper and helps to flush toxins out of the body, which in turn keeps the skin clearer.
